In an interview, John Isner was asked how far can you go down the men’s ranking list and still have players beat #1 player in WTA. He ended up saying #700-#800.
I generally agree but think there’s a huge mental side for the women playing men. Isner’s assessment is probably about right if tennis was only based on the physical part. The match-up between #800 men’s player vs #1 WTA player depends greatly on the mental strength of the #1 woman. Now that Safina is #1, we would probably have to go down as far as the juniors to find the right match. It’d be a very different story with the Williamses.
To prevent the passage of insider information, players are banned from tweeting during matches. Kinda stupid if a player were to tweet on a public and known account, though might have some merit considering a protected account made specifically for this purpose, to serve a gambling circle.
